WOMEN’S RUGBY
Women’s rugby began at Cambridge in 1988 and initially operated as a separate club, CUWRFC, to the men’s club. Since 2015 both teams have operated as one club to ensure opportunities and training would be equal for all teams and genders.
As of 2025, there have been 38 Varsity Matches played, with Oxford leading Cambridge 22 – 15, with one draw, a scoreline we plan to change over the coming years.
The 3 women’s teams are the Blues (1st XV), the Tigers (2nd XV) and the Jaguars (3rd XV).
The Blues play in the BUCS Premier South league, the 2nd tier of BUCS rugby, playing against teams across the south of England and Wales. In line with BUCS competitions, they usually play at 2pm on Wednesday afternoons. The Tigers also play in a BUCS league, whilst the Jaguars play occasional friendlies as well as an annual Varsity against Oxford’s 3rd team.
About the Women’s Blues
The Blues play in the BUCS Premier South league, the 2nd tier of BUCS rugby, playing against teams across the south of England and Wales. In line with BUCS competitions, they usually play at 2pm on Wednesday afternoons.
Their head coach is Will Cotterill who has been with the club since 2023 and is also Head of Rugby at Framlingham College.
About the Women’s Tigers
The Tigers play in a BUCS league with an expanded fixture list including friendlies to support the development of the Jaguars in the build up to their Varsity matches.
