After months of hard work tracking down players and allocating cap numbers to each of them, 120 of the 450 players who have represented CURUFC in the Women’s Varsity Matches gathered at Grange Road on Saturday to receive their Varsity Matches caps before the annual Blues vs. Old Girls match.
Bringing back all our old girls meant that their team was stronger than ever! With experience from the likes of Anna Williams, who played in the inaugural Women’s Varsity Match in 1988, and flare from last year’s Blues Ellie O’Keeffe, Phoebe Smith and Emily Bell the Old Girls managed to secure the game.
Although a big score line the current girls put in a real shift. Assistant DOR Jonny Andrews said “It was really exciting to see nearly a dozen girls make their first team debuts. We got to see lots of people play, in lots of positions and try out lots of combinations. There are plenty of positives to build on as we get into the start of our BUCS campaigns.”
They kick off their BUCS fixtures away against Bath University next week.
