Last Wednesday saw the Men’s Blues continue to build their momentum through their Varsity campaign, emerging victorious from a fierce contest with local side Bury St. Edmunds.
Men’s Secretary, Nate Bottomley, gave the following report of the evening’s action:
On Wednesday, February 4th, the Blues continued their winning momentum at Grange Road with a hard-fought 47-36 victory over Bury St Edmunds.
The contest was a game of two halves. The Blues did well to navigate a tricky first half into a stiff wind, showing composure to secure an early lead. The tactical management during this period allowed the team to build a solid platform despite the difficult conditions.
However, the second half proved to be more of a struggle. Whilst the wind was at their backs, a lapse in discipline allowed Bury St Edmunds to find a foothold and chip away at the lead with some dynamic play. Despite the pressure, the squad managed to hold off the visitors in the closing stages to secure the win.
Ollie East was named Man of the Match for a standout performance at 13. His defensive reads and physical tackles were crucial in stifling the Bury attack, while his constant threat with the ball in hand kept the opposition on the back foot. The scoring was bolstered by a brace each from Tim Andrew and Lewis Cooper, continuing their impressive try-scoring form.
This high-scoring encounter provides plenty of material for review sessions as the squad continues to fine-tune every detail in the build-up to the Varsity Match at StoneX Stadium.
